Hybro Battery and Manual Dual Use Screwdrivers

It’s just you and me, HYBRO. Except, everyone else wants you too. Kinda the story of my life. Hello everyone. This is the very first blog post of a long list of blog posts. And because it’s the very first one, it is special.

 The Hybro was yet another battery powered screwdriver that Murtuza( the guy at the store front )  put on the counter with a flourish. Inwardly, I rolled my eyes. (Btw, have you experienced Murtuza’s magic? Comment down below if you have. My go-to line with him these days is ‘No. Stay away Satan’). Back to the point. He said ‘this one is different. Just take it home and use it’. And so I did.

 Nothing. I felt nothing. Unscrewed a few things, fixed all the fan regulators in the apartment. Showed it to Sharath Yale, my main Biryani companion, how it worked.  He’s a contractor in construction. His eyes widened & he purred over it like a very tiny, happy kitten. Sharath is 6’3”, 3’ wide and built like an oil rig. But he’s a kitten.

 “This will be amazing for my electrician to use,” he whispered. “Take it for a bit,” I said. The usual ‘no, I can’t’, ‘yes, you must’ happened while stuffing ourselves with Bheema’s mutton biryani. He took it.

Later that month, “Hey man, how’s it going, that screwdriver come in handy?”

“Oh yeah dude, man it is so great, my electrician is so fast now. He’s finishing what normally takes him 2 days in 1 to 1.5 days. Took a little convincing though but he’s pretty happy with it”. WTH. Suddenly, I wanted it back. What did I do? I bought him a new one from Goodwill Enterprises and took back my Hybro. He was… puzzled. He took it. I took mine back and gurgled ‘my precious’ and held it tight. And just like that, I began to use it for everything. I had to move. Dismantling all my furniture was a breeze, it took seconds! Reassembling took seconds!

 My best friend got a new, spanking red Hybro 200 for her birthday. She looked at me, confused. I gleefully took it from her and used it to set up cabinets, kitchen shelves, and furniture around her home (she had just moved as well). It took seconds! Shivani (with curiosity and fascination) accepts my weird everyone-must-have-tools eccentricities and puts up with my cats, she’s a saint. Once she saw how easy and quick things took with the Hybro, she snatched it back and murmured ‘my precious’, holding it tight.

Get one for yourself. Don't stop there. Get one for your friends, your local electrician (so he can go home early and play with his kids), and your grandma. Why? Because it fits perfectly in the palm of our hands. It is torque-y enough to assemble things without cracking fixtures, over tightening screws, and for quick, precise electrical work. It is SO LIGHT, weighing in at 160 gms. And the best part is, it has a 100mm double ended bit which I found perfect for narrow spaces and fiddly corners, with a little LED light that illuminates your work area. It is versatile, ergonomic and if you get tired of pressing the button, just say screw it and use it manually because it automatically locks into place for manual use.

 Let’s talk specs. The HYBRO is an auto & manual 3.6 volt hybrid screwdriver. The HYBRO H200 is the starting model.

Just like all the really good things in your lives, you’ll first roll your eyes at it but I’m betting you cannot imagine your fledgling DIY life without it.

 Sharath is the biggest man I know (literally and figuratively). He saves enormously on skilled labour because of the HYBRO. Shivani is the tiniest person I know. She mounted her oven to her kitchen wall with her HYBRO (and a little help).

Do I still have mine? No, I gave it to my niece who squealed over it. She was my father’s right hand girl, and fixes everything around the house. Yeah, time to buy my fourth one.
